Monitoring for change: the role of family and friends in helping older adults manage personal health information

Dr. Jean Taylor and Dr. Anne Turner presented on their recently published JAMIA paper entitled Monitoring for change: the role of family and friends in helping older adults manage personal health information at the JAMIA Journal Club Webinar on June 12, 2018. The webinar began with an overview of the SOARING project and was followed by a description of the paper. Topics included: the roles of family and friends in supporting older adult personal health information management (PHIM), the importance of monitoring, and considerations for health information technology. Feedback from webinar evaluations was positive. One physician participant shared the following:

Enjoyed the presentation. It was very appropriate…With the ever increasing elderly population the burden of care is shifting more towards the families and friends. Even with the advances we have made in the field of Bio-Medical Informatics; the providers are not having the appropriate tools necessary to facilitate and enable efficient consumer engagement.
